The Jezebel spirit is running the world

This is maybe a controversial statement, but it seems that looking at what is happening in the world, and here in South Africa, that truly the Jezebel spirit is running the world. The consequence of this is that this may lead many people to their eternal destruction.

In this article, we will explore and unpack this argument, and we can explore why this could lead to the destruction of many people for eternity. But we will also discover that there is a message of hope.

In order for us to achieve this exploration, we will first need to explore who or what is this Jezebel spirit. We also need to unpack what it means when we use the term Jezebel spirit and from there apply it to the recent events happening in the world and here in South-Africa.

The Jezebel spirits

The concept of the Jezebel spirit originates from the biblical account of Queen Jezebel, a figure in the Books of Kings in the Old Testament. Jezebel was the daughter of Ethbaal, King of Sidon, and she married Ahab, the King of Israel. Her story is recorded in 1 Kings 16:31-33 to 2 Kings 9:30-37.

Jezebel is portrayed as a powerful and manipulative queen who incited her husband, King Ahab, to abandon the worship of Yahweh and instead worship Baal, a Phoenician deity. She is also known for her role in the persecution of the prophets of Yahweh, most notably Elijah. Jezebel's influence led to significant religious and moral corruption in Israel, which ultimately resulted in divine judgement upon her and her family.

Theological Interpretation

In theological circles, the term "Jezebel spirit" transcends its historical roots to describe a type of demonic influence or behaviour pattern characterized by manipulation, control, and seduction. This interpretation is derived from the biblical portrayal of Jezebel as a manipulative and idolatrous figure who leads others away from true worship.

The New Testament also references Jezebel in the context of the early Christian church. In Revelation 2:20, a woman named Jezebel is mentioned as a false prophetess in the church of Thyatira, who teaches and leads the servants of God into immorality and idolatry. This passage reinforces the association of Jezebel with deceit, immorality, and spiritual corruption.
([Bolinger, 2025], [Got Questions, 2024])

Contemporary Usage

Today, the term "Jezebel spirit" is often used in Christian teachings to describe individuals or influences that are perceived to be spiritually manipulative, domineering, and leading others away from biblical truth. It is important to note that this term is not used in the Bible as a specific doctrinal concept, but rather as a theological and pastoral tool to address certain behaviours and influences within the church and society.
([Bolinger, 2025], [Got Questions, 2024])

The Jezebel influence on the world today

With a better understanding of what is meant by “Jezebel Spirit”, we can unpack the argument that the Jezebel spirit is running the world today. This allows us then to explore what does that mean for the Church and Christians today.
We will focus on key things here
    1. The worship of Baal
    2. The taking of land

Baal Worship

The worship of Baal in ancient times involved the veneration of a Canaanite deity associated with fertility, storms, and agriculture. This form of worship included rituals that were often marked by licentiousness, idol worship, and sometimes even child sacrifice. Baal's cult was a significant threat to the monotheistic worship of Yahweh, as evidenced by the continuous warnings and condemnations from the prophets in the Old Testament.

In modern times, the worship of Baal is often symbolically referenced to describe the idolatrous and hedonistic tendencies prevalent in contemporary society. This can include the pursuit of wealth, power, and pleasure at the expense of spiritual values and ethical principles. In a theological context, it is seen as a manifestation of the same spiritual rebellion and moral decay that characterized ancient Baal worship.

Child sacrifice in Baal worship was one of the most abhorrent practices associated with this Canaanite deity. Historically, it involved the ritual killing of children, often infants, as offerings to Baal to secure favour and blessings, such as fertility, agricultural success, and protection from disasters. This gruesome practice was meant to demonstrate the ultimate devotion and submission to Baal by sacrificing what was most precious.

The biblical prophets fiercely condemned these acts, viewing them as the pinnacle of moral and spiritual corruption. The prophet Jeremiah, for example, decried the Israelites' participation in these detestable rites, calling them to return to the worship of Yahweh and forsake the ways of the surrounding pagan nations.
[Bolinger, 2023]

It can be argued that child sacrifice is still happening today, with it being one of the big debates where advocates against this practise is being arrested like a 74-year-old woman arrested on the 18 of February 2025 in Scotland. [Lockhart, D. W., & Cochrane, A., 2025]

Yes, abortion in general is a form of Baal Worship and sacrifice. The reason for this argument is because most of the time this done under the idea that of securing favour and blessed life for the future, e.g. “I am not ready for a child as I am building a career, or I am too young for a baby” and many other reasons for self.

But the reality is this, as infants were cooked alive and screaming of pain during the sacrifice (hence God’s judgement on the Canaanites), often the babies that are being aborted are still viable for life. These babies are then left with chemical burns and left to scream of pain till they die? [Sullivan, N., 2012] On the positive side, because of the “Heartbeat law” in Florida 23 000 babies have been saved from abortion [Wise, T., 2025].

How does this Baal worship relate to the Jezebel spirit? The reality is, Jezebel killed God’s priests and prophets and influenced the Northern Kingdom to worship Baal and brought her priests and prostitutes for this. In the same way, governments across the world are persecuting those who advocate against abortions as in many cases it is a form of Baal worship.

And why are there abortions most of the time? Because often ladies fall pregnant because people have sex outside of its divine design between a husband and wife. They do it for self-gratification and then use abortion as a means of birth-control. Sadly, women are the target of ridicule and the one to take the responsibility. The last time I checked it takes two to tango, and it is of my opinion many men do not step up and take responsibility.

Therefore, the governments, countries, and people, who activity support abortions and persecute those who stand-up against its use, are following a Jezebel spirit.

Taking of Land

One of the final straws for God against Jezebel was how she manipulated the laws and situation to have the law persecute and kill Naboth for his land (1 Kings 21:1–16).

Currently in South-Africa, one of the big contentions, among many things, is the “Land” issue. Recently, a law was signed by the current president which has caused a lot of uproar among various people and political parties but also used as a “reason” for Mr Trump to push through other policies against South Africa (although it can be more presumed that the majority political party of the GNU is in bed with the USA’s enemies being it Russia, Iran and China).

The problem with the law is that the government can take a person’s land without paying them for it, especially if they were not willing to sell in same way as Naboth was not willing to sell to Ahab. This law is a Jezebel law and the ones who support it are following the Jezebel spirit.

The strange thing is that, like King Ahab, the government owns a lot of land. A lot of this land is unused, and can easily be given to those who seek land. Although the government uses the term it wants to do in the name of “the people” but the reality is that they are using the law to steal land, and doing Jezebel style of doing it.

We see Russia have done the same to Ukraine, using their own dictatorship and laws to justify their invasion of Ukraine. We have seen the same Jezebel spirit in Zimbabwe.

Some may argue in South Africa, “But the apartheid government took peoples’ land and forcibly moved them,” and yes, that is a valid argument and was a Jezebel spirit move and this was and is unacceptable. As I said the world is being run by the Jezebel spirit.

Some may argue, the “Boers” took our land, and I would argue go read some more Southern Africa history as it is not so simple. During the Bantu migration the Nguni people moved down to South Africa and took land from natives like the Khoisan [Wanzala, S. , 2023]. Hence, why the Khoisan now also want representation in the Afriforum arguments in Washington. Some lands were obtained through negotiations and misunderstandings sadly, which lead to wars and ugly history. But as I said, the world is being run by the Jezebel spirits.

Some may argue, well Israel has taken the land from the Palestinians. Although I do not agree on how things has been done there and the disgusting form of violence between all parties, Hamas, Israel and the Iran government supporting the Hamas terrorists, like the African National Congress supports Hamas, it is a sad, but the reality is, the land never belonged to the Palestinians, but was given to them by a Roman Emperor who deported all Jews, and renamed Judea to Palestine because he hated the Jews and named it Palestine due to the warring history between Israel and the Philistines [Montefiore, S. S. 2011].

What does this mean for us as the Church and Christians?

The things that are happening across the world, needs to happen as we get closer to the return of Christ. People think they can rely on their own morality to decide what is right and wrong, what is ethical and what is not, rather than what God had revealed in scriptures and what His Spirit revealed in our hearts.
We cannot escape them, and as pointed out in Revelation 2:20-23, a warning that the false prophet, “The Jezebel” spirit does false teachings. We as the Church must not fall asleep like the church in Thyatira and support this Jezebel spirit influences happening in the world today.

What do I mean by this? If we as Christians, choose to support or advocate for things like abortion or land grabs, illegally, by war or even using the man made laws, we are as the Church and as Christians, supporting and agreeing with the Jezebel spirit.

Yes, the Church and Christians may argue, that there were so many unjust things done, and I will say, you are 100% correct. But the reality is, there is no undo button on history. We should learn from those mistakes, thus, we cannot allow ourselves to use the same evils of the past to correct the past.
We need to learn to forgive the injustices, and we need to learn from those injustices in order not to repeat them.

In the end, justice belongs to the Lord and not to us, and He will judge justly and heal those who need healing if they choose Christ so they can experience peace beyond understanding.

One day we need to stand in-front of God, for judgement, and we as the Church and as individuals do not want the judgement given to us as that to the Church in Thyatira because of tolerating what is wrong. We, as the Church and as Christians need to speak out.

Brothers and sisters, be courageous!

Is there hope then?

There is always hope because of Christ Jesus. If we have sinned, because of His love, we can repent and return, become hot for Christ and truth instead of being cold or lukewarm.

We may not be able to change the outcome on what is happening now in the world, we can only speak out against it. But in the book of Revelation, God reveals to us, that in the end God wins, and those who did all the injustices and decided to go against God, become the losers in the eternal flames of Hell.

I personally choose to be hot for Christ, how do you choose?
